Terms of Memberships

¹ Liability coverage per insured, per occurrence is $1,000,000; per insured, per policy period is $3,000,000; see policy summary for details on liability coverage; Legal coverage includes reimbursement of attorney fees in connection with approved claims under the policy summary.

² “Professional Membership” shall be open to full-time and part-time W2 paid employees of an accredited public or private school – including certified, Pre-K through grade twelve educators, school administrators, school counselors, school nurses, or other professional/certified school staff, and higher education adjuncts or professors. Professional Members shall be eligible to receive the Educators Professional Liability insurance.

³ “Associate Membership” shall be open to non-certified individuals who are employed by an accredited public or private school, and are ineligible for the Professional Membership. This includes, but is not limited to, W2 paid paraprofessionals, clerical and secretarial workers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, janitors, and other non-professional school 11 staff. Associate Members shall be eligible to receive the Educators Professional Liability insurance.

⁴ “Student Membership” shall be open to students who are enrolled in an accredited teacher education program and working at a school toward becoming a certified educator. Student Members shall be eligible to receive the Educators Professional Liability insurance.

⁵ “Retired Membership” shall include retired school employees whose former positions qualified them for Professional Membership. Retired Members shall be eligible to receive the Educators Professional Liability insurance.

⁶ “Affiliated Membership” includes parents and community members who are interested in public and private school education. Affiliated Members shall not be eligible for Educators Professional Liability insurance.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To cancel your membership, you must give 30 days' written notice by email. Membership fees are non-refundable, and refunds are at the discretion of American Teachers Alliance Inc., with a $15.00 cancellation fee.
